Aggretsuko Season One Review (Spoilers)

I literally had no idea that I would love a cutesy/death-metal show as much as I did. But anyway, let’s review the show.

Each episode of the show is only 15-minutes long which is great because it can keep my attention all the way though and it is easy to binge watch.

Retsuko is a red panda who started her accounting job with high hopes and positivity. Now that she has worked there for a while, the spark has gone and she isn’t feeling so great about her job. After a hard day of work, Retsuko going to sing death metal karaoke. However, no one knows about this, not even her friends from work.

While she sings karaoke death metal, she sings all about how much she hates her boss. Mr. Ton is at pig who serves as the series’ primary antagonist, and while he makes for an appropriately awful representation of the worst kind of boss it makes the show that little bit funnier.

As the show goes on, Retsuko finds hope as she sees chances of leaving her job, love and friendship.

I watched the show in English but I wish I watched it in Japanese with English subtitles as someone else has said that it’s the better way to do it.

For literally all of the show, I was glued to the screen. I loved the friendship that developed between Washimi and Gori. They are two of the office’s most awesome ladies and even though they didn’t seem approachable at first, the three of them made a great friendship group.

Another thing that I loved was that even though Retsuko’s life seemed to be a little rubbish, she still had positive things happen to her. She started yoga, made new friends and even found romance.

The season ended with the possibility of romance between Retsuko and Haida, Retsuko’s hyena coworker. They seems like a super cute couple which warms my heart.

Aggretsuko is an excellent series that anyone who loves good comedy and great characters can enjoy, even if they’re not necessarily an anime fan.
