Roald Dahl Quotes To Get You Through The Day

I’m pretty sure everyone knows Roald Dahl at this point. You have probably even come across some of his work whether it was by reading his books or just walking past them in the book shops. I’m pretty sure he is most famous for writing Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and The BFG, as well as other short stories and children’s books.

He definitely did leave us with some grate tales from his imagination that helped us fuel our own, but he also taught us some very important lessons about life through his work.

“A person who has good thoughts cannot ever be ugly. You can have a wonky nose and a crooked mouth and a double chin and stick-out teeth, but if you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” – Roald Dahl, The Twits

“Don’t worry about the bits you can’t understand. Sit back and allow the words to wash around you, like music.” – Roald Dahl, Matilda

“If you have good thoughts they will shine out of your face like sunbeams and you will always look lovely.” – Roald Dahl

“Don’t gobblefunk around with words.” – Roald Dahl, The BFG

“It doesn’t matter who you are or what you look like, so long as somebody loves you.” – Roald Dahl, The Witches

“Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.” – Roald Dahl

“You should never, never doubt something that no one is sure of.” – Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

“All the reading she had done had given her a view of life that they had never seen.” – Roald Dahl, Matilda

“Life is more fun if you play games.” – Roald Dahl, My Uncle Oswald

“We all have our moments of brilliance and glory, and this was mine.” – Roald Dahl, Boy: Tales of Childhood

“Having power is not nearly as important as what you choose to do with it.” – Roald Dahl

“I am the maker of music, the dreamer of dreams.” – Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

“But there was one other thing that the grown-ups also knew, and it was this: that however small the chance might be of striking lucky, the chance is there. The chance had to be there.” – Roald Dahl, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

“There are no strangers in here, just friends you haven’t met…” – Roald Dahl

“If you are going to get anywhere in life you have to read a lot of books.” – Roald Dahl

“When writing about oneself, one must strive to be truthful. Truth is more important than modesty.” – Roald Dahl, Boy: Tales of Childhood

“Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog. Make sure everything you do is so completely crazy it’s unbelievable.” – Roald Dahl, Matilda

“Two wrongs don’t make a right.” – Roald Dahl, The BFG

Which of these Roald Dahl quotes is your all-time favourite? I think I need to go and re-read some of his books because they are just too good!

  1. Absolutely love Roald Dahl and his tales growing up were such wonderful bed time stories! 100% my absolute favourite is “All the reading she had done had given her a view of life that they had never seen.” – Roald Dahl, Matilda – it’s so potent even today! Thank you for a post filled with nostalgia for me and certainly wonderful memories!
