Top Tips For Buying Second-Hand Clothes

There are plenty of reasons that someone would want to shop second hand. Maybe you are buying things for yourself or maybe you are buying to sell on and make a profit?! Either way, there’s a few things that you should consider buying spending your pretty pennies on those items.

If you’re looking to start shopping second-hand then check out your local charity shops, car boot sales, eBay and even Facebook marketplace. So, if you plan on hitting those places then here’s my top tips for you so you can grab yourself a hidden gem.

Perseverance

This is probably my number one tip. Sometimes, clothing items can be put back in the wrong place in charity shops which means that it’s worth checking every single rail in the shop if you’re looking for a complete bargain. You’ll find men’s in the women’s section and kid’s in the men’s section. It just happens in charity shops. That is why you really need to search through every item on every rail.

I often find that when a customer uses the changing room in a charity shop, they just dump everything on the nearest rail when they are done. This is where you’ll find those hidden gems. Of course, people don’t want to buy horrible, over-used items so if you look through things that someone else has already tried on, you’ll find some good stuff.

Check for imperfections

If you’re looking around a shop and find the perfect item, you’re not going to notice that little hole at the bottom. Charity shop staff and volunteers try to go through all the clothing and get rid of the not-so-good stuff but sometimes, they miss things. Snags, tears and holes in the fabric are big things to look out for as these may not be obvious straight away.

Other things to look out for are broken zippers, stains, missing buttons and alterations (which are sometimes good and sometimes not). If you’re looking to resell then you want your clothing item to be in pristine condition.

If you are buying clothing for yourself and you are handy with a needle and thread, take into consideration that you could repair an item yourself if there is an imperfection. Small tears in fabrics such as cotton, linen and denim can easily be repaired with a few quick stitches and means that you don’t have to leave that item you fall in love with on the rail.C

Keep going back into the shops

To get the absolute best of what your local charity shops have to offer then keep on heading back. New clothes will always be coming into the shop as they receive donations and stock rotate. Popping into the shops regularly will also mean that you’ll get to know people and they might even offer your further discount or let you see items that haven’t even reached the shop floor yet.

Have fun!

The most important thing about second-hand clothes shopping is that you have fun. It’s not meant to be tedious, it’s meant to be fun. You’re getting a bargain and also supporting a great cause. What’s not to love?!

How To Dress Kawaii On A Budget

Do you ever walk into a shop and instantly get sad because nothing is within budget? Me too!

I’m not a rich girl. I don’t get to go out daily and spend lots and lots of pennies on things that I want. My money is used for things I need to live. So, even though I want to live kawaii lifestyle, I need to do it on a bit of a budget.

But can you live a kawaii lifestyle on a budget?!

Brands Don’t Matter!

I used to believe that to look cute I needed all the biggest branded fashion items. But that’s not true at all. With shops such as Romwe, Forever 21 and Asos around, kawaii clothing is becoming super affordable. My favourite time to buy kawaii clothing is Spring time where everything is super pastel and cute. Romwe, Asos and Forever 21 are perfect for this because they are relatively cheap anyway but often have sales which makes things even more affordable.

Sales, Reductions and Second Hand!

Not only are sales amazing for finding cute items, you can look around for coupons and discount codes for certain shops. This may get you some money off or free shipping which is all a little extra money saved. If this fails and you’re still struggling to find the perfect bag, shoes, clothing or item then head to your local charity shop. They have a huge range of second hand and sometimes new clothing. I’m sure that you’ll be able to find something that is your style and also kawaii.

Get crafty!

If you manage to find a super kawaii clothing piece but it’s in the wrong size or it has a hole, then why not get a little crafty with it. Get sewing and add pastel patches to your clothing to fill the holes. You could even consider buying clothing in huge sizes just for the fabric and making something completely new from scratch. It all depends on how crafty you are.

So, if you’re thinking of trying out kawaii fashion then keep these tips in mind and you might save yourself a penny or two..

January ’19 Kawaii And Geeky Wishlist

I know, I know. We are nearing the end of the month but I couldn’t help myself from making a wishlist. I found so much cute and geeky stuff that I just really want this month so I thought I would share a wishlist post with you all.

I might end up making this into a monthly thing so if you like this style of post then do let me know…

Without further ado, onto the wishlist…

1… Backpack. As soon as I found this backpack, I knew I needed it or at least one similar. It comes in a range of colours but of course, I want it in pink.

2… Gaming Bean Bag. Who doesn’t need a gaming bean bag in their life? I recently got back into gaming so I thought that a gaming bean bag would be perfect. I can sit in the middle of the living room and game until I’m content.

3… Polaroid film. I love taking photos so this film is kawaii yet practical!

4… Shiba pillow plush. I usually sleep on a little pillow that is Sven’s (from Frozen) face but I feel like I could do with another pillow but I’m not satisfied with just an ordinary pillow. I need a super cute one.

5… Pokémon Indigo League: Season 1. Sure, it’s on Netflix which we already pay for but I just really want to own it too!

6… Tokidoki Unicorno Figure-Series 7. I have two unicornos so far and I want soooo many more. They are just so cute and the detailing on them in amazing. Plus, unicorns.

7… Gameboy Digital Watch. I don’t even wear watches but this thing is just adorable. I never actually owned my own Gameboy so I dream of having one..

8… Pink gaming headset. I want to start filming gameplay on my YouTube channel and maybe eventually start streaming on Twitch so a headset would be fun. Especially this cute pink one.

What made it onto your wishlist this month?
